Ni Made Sriasih
“My colors are so happy they’re jumping up and down!” Cynthia, Manhattan
I was first captivated by Sriasih’s paintings on my initial visit to
Bali in 2005. I fell in love so deeply with her work that I dreamt of
it repeatedly until I returned to the gallery to purchase a canvas!
Sriasih began painting in 1978 at the age of 16 in her home
village, Tebesaya, (Ubud, Bali) a village famous for its painters.
She is well known for her paintings of White Herons and of
traditional Balinese folk-heroes and heroines. Sriasih’s paintings
are notable for their color contrast, emphasizing perspective
depths, their depiction of traditional Balinese foliage, and fine,
stylized depiction of her subjects. In addition to her own art,
Sriasih teaches elementary school in Denpasar and art school
for talented young girls at the Seniwati Gallery in Ubud.
At Maggie’s Pure Land, we are excited to support women artists
of Bali! When I realized we would be importing Soap Nuts from
beloved Bali, I quickly contacted “Ibu Sri” to commission a
painting for our box.
